About Our Workshops

Marrawuy Journeys brings creativity, wellbeing, and connection directly into your workplace through tailored, in-person workshops and artist-in-residence experiences. Designed to enrich company culture and support organisational goals, these offerings inspire reflection, promote wellbeing, and build stronger, more connected teams.

Our workshops have always focused on wellbeing and team-building, but they continue to evolve to offer even more depth and flexibility. In addition to creative expression, we now include elements of reflection, goal setting, and values exploration - fostering personal growth while strengthening team cohesion. We also offer varied formats to suit your needs, from short, impactful sessions to more immersive multi-day experiences.

Founder Sarah Richards, a Ngiyampaa woman, CPA, and Executive MBA graduate, knows firsthand the power of blending creativity with strategy. Her own healing journey through art shapes each session. Creativity isn’t about being an artist - it’s about giving yourself permission to explore, express, and grow. If Sarah can bridge the worlds of accounting and painting, your team can access their creative potential too.

Whether it's exploring emotions through colour, sharing personal stories through symbolism, or simply taking a break from the screen, Marrawuy Journeys workshops are a powerful investment in both personal and organisational success.

Our workshop participants say:

The art workshop was a great way for us to acknowledge NAIDOC and National Reconciliation Weeks. Sarah reminded us that the process is all about coming together as colleagues and spending some time improving our mental health. We all got a lot of relaxation out of the session, and it didn’t matter what our different creativity levels were. Thanks Sarah!

Sarah is such an amazing artist, speaker, and teacher! Her artworks are truly inspiring, and the descriptions of each piece are so meaningful. I was really moved by her "Determination" artwork description. Her passion for teaching others about Aboriginal art techniques and symbols is so inspiring. It was such a fantastic experience to explore Aboriginal design, colour and texture, as well as expressing our creativity while working as a team.

I organised a workshop for my colleagues with aims of deepening our knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture through art practice. It was a great opportunity to learn through experience, connect with each other, and support mental health practice. So many participants enjoyed the workshop and have talked further about our artwork and the meaning behind it afterwards. Thank you Sarah.

Sarah was gentle in her support for the less creative people in the room (me) and encouraging them to just make a start. Beautiful artworks resulted. A lovely afternoon with colour, music and stillness. Would love to do again.

What a delight to have Sarah Richards a young inspiring Aboriginal woman to lead our gathering at our healing day! Sarah inspired and encouraged each of us to represent our feelings, thoughts, and stories through art!! Sarah was so well prepared, affirming, and inclusive! She created a beautiful safe and welcoming space which allowed each of us to share our stories with confidence and hope! As a young Indigenous woman Sarah brings deep compassion and understanding to her facilitation as well as the gift of her own story, talent, and hope-filled aspirations!

Sarah left the group with a creation of her own artwork which will remain with the group and be honoured at future gatherings!!

Sarah was a good presenter who allowed people to dig deep into what was happening in their lives through art. She enabled people to share in a safe and comfortable environment. Sarah is a great role model for young Aboriginal women.

We recently had the pleasure of participating in a contemporary Aboriginal art workshop hosted by Sarah from Marrawuy Journeys for the ANU College of Business and Economics staff and students.

The workshop was an incredible experience, enjoyed by everyone in attendance. Sarah provided a fascinating insight into her contemporary Aboriginal art practice, explaining the meanings behind her various symbols and colours used in her art. At the end of the workshop, everyone had the opportunity to share their artwork with the group. It was great to see each person's art and hear their stories behind what they painted, adding a personal touch to the experience.

The entire event ran smoothly, thanks to Sarah's organisation and approachable nature. Her ability to engage participants and share her knowledge made the workshop both enjoyable and educational. We highly recommend Marrawuy Journeys and Sarah for any group looking to learn more about contemporary Aboriginal art in a fun and informative setting.

Thank you, Sarah, for a memorable and enriching experience!

Thank you Sarah for taking us away from our screens and through a serene, insightful painting experience which carried me through the rest of my hectic day. I loved learning about Sarah's journey and the symbolic meaning of natural elements in her works.

The Marrawuy Journeys workshop was a great introduction into storytelling through painting. As a music specialist, I am always looking for ways to incorporate more artforms and places for inspiration into my classroom. Sarah gave a great introduction into her journey of discovery and the way she has approached learning about herself through art. She facilitated a great discussion in the workshop where everyone was able to ask questions and learn from each other. The workshop was well organised and Sarah guided us in the techniques and processes available to us. Sarah was always there to help and discuss what I was trying to create in my artwork and it was a very helpful and an enjoyable experience.

Sarah has been a regular contributor for our Association and we were fortunate to have the My Journey, Your Journey as part of our recent Association Training Day. Sarah shared her journey with us, sharing personal insight into her vast range of artworks. The group were of varying levels of confidence and experience in completing their own journey piece but Sarah was able to assist, guide and encourage all of the participants to each produce their own work. Sarah was extremely respectful and supportive of those who may not have wanted to share with the group. Feedback from the group is that they each got something from the session and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop experience. I would highly recommend this for teams who are wishing to explore creativity and self-expression or to find a session with a difference for their teams!

Sarah ran an immersive painting workshop where our whole group felt safe to ask questions about Indigenous art, artworks and techniques. As a teacher of visual arts I found this workshop very helpful for my classroom practice and there were many ways I could incorporate what I have learnt into my teaching practice.
